Aircall background noise: the desktop toggle and its fine print

By the LineSide desk · Aircall help docs read 2026-09-20

Aircall does ship noise cancellation — but with three footnotes that decide whether it applies to you at all: it lives only in the Desktop App (version 2.32.0 or newer), it's absent from web, CTI and mobile, and Aircall's own help center documents cases where enabling it can crash the desktop app during call actions. Here's how to use it well, and what to run instead everywhere it doesn't reach.

What Aircall's docs actually commit to

From Aircall's help center, read 2026-09-20:

Where Aircall's noise cancellation exists
  • Desktop App, v2.32.0 or newerSettings → Preferences → Sounds; cleans your mic only
  • Webnot available
  • CTI integrationsnot available
  • iOS and Android appsnot available

Credit where due: that's more honest fine print than most vendors publish. It also maps your decision cleanly, so let's do that.

If you're on the Desktop App: use it, carefully

  1. Check the version first. The toggle needs Desktop App 2.32.0+. Version-frozen IT installs are the usual reason the setting is missing.
  2. Enable it in Sounds. Settings → Preferences → Sounds, switch on noise cancellation.
  3. Count your filters. If your headset does its own noise processing, follow Aircall's own advice: run one layer, not two. The interference failure — pumping, clipped word-endings — is the subject of our double-suppression note.
  4. Watch for the crash pattern. If the desktop app starts dying when you dial out or pick up, Aircall's documented workaround direction is clear: switch the feature off and use an external layer instead (below).
  5. Test with your real noise. Keyboard, café chatter, the dog. Outbound-only filtering means your own ears are the wrong judge — record a test call or ask the person on the other end.

If you're on web, CTI or mobile: the built-in doesn't exist for you

This is a bigger population than it sounds — plenty of Aircall seats live inside a browser tab or a Salesforce/HubSpot CTI widget all day. For those setups, Aircall's answer today is "no feature," and the working pattern is the same one used for 3CX and every other softphone that ships nothing: a virtual-device AI filter. Krisp installs as Krisp Microphone / Krisp Speaker; the browser or CTI picks up whatever microphone the OS (or the site's device picker) points at, so the filtering happens upstream of Aircall entirely. Two bonuses of that approach:

A moving target: the Workspace transition

One maintenance note worth a paragraph: Aircall has been rolling out Aircall Workspace, its newer app experience, and its help center now carries a separate "Aircall Workspace: Audio settings" article alongside the classic ones (both visible 2026-09-20). Feature naming and menu paths tend to drift during transitions like this — so if your app doesn't match the Settings → Preferences → Sounds path above, you're probably on Workspace: search the help center for "audio settings" and check that article's current state rather than assuming the feature vanished. We'll fold in the Workspace specifics once the dust settles; the checked-date on this page tells you how current we are.

Before any of that: the free ten minutes

Aircall sits downstream of the OS microphone chain like every softphone. Wrong input device after a dock change, gain slammed to maximum, OS enhancements fighting the app — these produce "Aircall noise" that no toggle anywhere fixes. Run the softphone mic settings checklist first; it's free, and it solves the embarrassing cases before you buy anything.

Noise removal that reaches every Aircall seat

Desktop, web, or CTI — Krisp filters at the device level, so Aircall just sees a clean microphone, and you hear cleaner callers too. 7-day free trial, no card required; paid plans from $8/month billed annually (checked 2026-09-20).

Run Krisp under Aircall → Sponsored line: subscribe through this button and Krisp may pay LineSide a commission. If you're on the desktop app, Aircall's own free toggle is worth trying first — we just told you exactly how.

Quick answers

Does Aircall have built-in noise cancellation?
Yes, but narrowly: in the Desktop App from version 2.32.0, enabled under Settings → Preferences → Sounds. It removes noise from your microphone only, and it isn't available on web, CTI or mobile. Docs read 2026-09-20.
Why does Aircall crash when noise cancellation is on?
Aircall documents this: in some specific cases, the feature can crash the desktop app during call actions like dialing or receiving. If you hit that pattern, disable the built-in and filter upstream with a virtual-device tool instead.
Can I get noise cancellation in Aircall's web app or CTI?
Not from Aircall — the feature doesn't exist there as of 2026-09-20. A virtual-device filter (Krisp Microphone selected as your input) is the standard workaround, and it also cleans inbound audio.
Should my headset's noise processing and Aircall's both be on?
Aircall itself recommends against stacking — interference between layers is real. Pick the layer that performs better in your room and switch the other off.
